12 months is the maximum you can be paid for the period PRIOR to your claim date. Many call that retro pay. To receive the full twelve months retro pay, your established onset date (EOD) must have...

I filed in Jan 2014 for SSDI. My VA claim  backdate and my supposed onset date with Social Security is JUN 2012. My lawyer seems to think everything will go back to then MINUS the 5 month waiting...

Medic, you had approximately 18 months after your onset date prior to your claim date. So, after subtracting the five months waiting period, you'd still get the maximum 12 months of retro (pre-claim)...
